Alan Ardiff

Categorising Alan's work as jewellery is incorrect - to date his three dimensional work has been in the form of beautiful, humorous, small scale sculptures.
His precious figurative pieces are modern talismans, mini-theatres that tell stories both witty and wise. He uses the same traditional handcraft techniques that have been used through the ages in Irish metalwork. Movement is an essential element in his work - his characters sway with a kinetic energy that is carried through in his painting and sculpture.
Alan's recent work features larger scale pieces in glass, bronze and precious metals. From the chaos of the universe and the human mind and working with elements created by the death of stars, Alan Ardiff has created order. His work is engaging, humorous and visually pleasing.
Describing the pain of the creative process and the transition from the emotional chaos caused by an absence of ideas, through the period of inspiration and creativity, to an understanding of the universe within, Alan's recent works are entitled "The Creative Block", "A Passing Thought", "Sole Searching", "what's it all about?", "Understanding a Mystery", "The Inner Self" and "The Universe Within". Each piece is mounted on an ironic glass anvil. They are life enhancing artefacts which will be enjoyed long into the future - beyond the earthly lives of those lucky enough to be the first to possess them.
